Seton Hall Loses Ship

By Adam Zagoria on May 07, 2008, 5:53PM

Gonzo_courtesy_shuThe Seton Hall men’s basketball team lost a scholarship after failing to meet the minimum standard for the Academic Progress Report (APR).

Division I programs carry 13 scholarship players, and Seton Hall chose to accept its punishment over the 2007-08 season, when it was permitted 12 scholarship players. The school was reportedly notified last summer.

Every Division I sports team calculates its APR each academic year. The APR is based on the eligibility, retention and graduation of each student-athlete on scholarship. An APR of 925 equates to an NCAA Graduation Success Rate of about 60 percent.

Seton Hall was the only Big East program that suffered such a penalty.
